Nigel Hillier has been a professional photographer since leaving the Newport Documentary Photography course in 1989. The 2 year intensive course was directed by Magnum photographer David Hurn. After a year traveling the world shooting stock pictures he was quickly signed up by Getty Images who have since placed his images with hundreds of publications and advertising campaigns worldwide, Including; Virgin, Microsoft, Barclaycard, Sainsbury`s, Conde Nast and many more.
He currently divides his time with work for The Guardian, The Telegraph, The Financial Times, Red, Grazia and organisations including Sainsbury`s, The Children`s Society, Bettys and Taylors. Film and tv clients include the BBC, Sky, Channel 5, 5tv and Pathe. Some famous faces have been photographed over the years including Angelina Jolie, Pierce Brosnan, Gary Barlow, Badly Drawn Boy, Keith Chegwin?!..and Peter Kay who has used Nigel`s photograph on the back cover of his new book.
Aside from commercial commissions Nigel also works on fine art projects and has exhibited in The Lowry Gallery, Salford. Aop Gallery, London. Design Innovation Centre, Leeds, Heart Gallery, Yorkshire, Salford Museum and The Biscuit Factory Gallery in Newcastle. Some of Nigel`s prints have recently been aquired by Russian Bank VTB in St Petersburg. Awards include Shot Up North winner, Finalist in the Nikon International photo contest, Landscape Photographer of the year winner, Creativematch winner and finalist in LPA portrait awards.
